One Raindrop

cropped-cropped-img_20140712_2034591.jpg

Inside one raindrop the world changes.

Beginning as droplets on chipped windowsills

bringing their forgiveness, happiness, or sadness.

Not because the translucent angel tears

seep emotions out with the rain,

but because it is the rain.

Sunny days are beautiful, but the rain…

the rain reveals true feelings

while rainbows are proof of promise.

Such a beautiful thing in this world is

raindrops on soft and fragrant flower petals

the kind that only bloom for a week or two all year.

It’s a dream.

A dream that replays like a favorite black and white movie.

Maybe it’s a memory? And finally waking up is inevitable

while the sun of a new day beams down its glory.

It’s that one little raindrop filled with life…

that just disappears.

It evaporates into the air

or soaks its way into the stem of that flower.

Here it will forever live on and come back in memory.

Only on another rainy day

will I see that one raindrop,

and be chasing the lilac dream.

Dreams…

We all have them. Some are magical, and others are terrifying. Some say these dreams can tell a lot about a person’s life. Others say it’s just a dream. Still, it’s fascinating to analyze our own dreams. We can use interpretation to dig deep (Freudian) into the mind of the dreamer. What is it about dreams that spark an interest in us all? Is it the unknown? Or, is it believing in the dream’s meaning?

By definition, a dream is a succession of images, thoughts, and emotions passing through our mind when we sleep. These thoughts, images, and emotions are more than just dreams…

I had a dream the other night. A dream so familiar to me I know I’ve had it before, again and again. Every time I’m lifting my arms in the air with this power I can only describe as adrenaline, and somehow, magically, my body begins to float. Higher and higher I rise in the air where I begin to fly further and further towards the ceiling of the building. Then, like a super-woman, I break through the ceiling and fly away. Away from the pressure and the stress everyday life brings us all. Are we supposed to just ignore these dreams? I think not.

Dreams can tell a lot about a person. Maybe I hate being cooped up indoors. I do love the outdoors as much as many. Maybe this dream is telling me something. It warns me to break-free from the thoughts of others and to start doing what I want to do, and to just break-free. As a psychology student I studied the ideas behind these dreams, continuous dreams. My dream of flying represents freedom and control. It’s an amazing feeling each time, flying freely higher into the sky after breaking free from the building. It’s like I’m a bird, flying with power and soaring through the air and away to cleaner air, fresh scents, and brighter smiles. The building perhaps represents my job, but then again, who doesn’t dislike their job from time to time. But a continuous dream? Maybe it’s time for change. Time to take this dream seriously.

So I started small. Getting my college degree was step one. Next? Write a contemporary women’s fiction novel. After that? Break free from other’s thoughts and opinions and just be me. A writer. A young, ambitious, hardworking writer. Isn’t it amazing how much a dream can tell us? All we have to do is rest our sleepy head on a soft pillow, close our eyes, and leave it to our mind to paint the artwork. It’s incredible. Each time I have this dream, I know it’s inspiration giving me the strength to follow my heart, my mind, and my purpose. Dreams are more than just dreams…

They reveal who we are.
